The Consulate General of Switzerland in Shanghai successfully hosted its annual flagship event, 'Swiss Night 2025,' on September 10th. The prestigious Grand Halls on the Huangpu River were transformed into a magnificent 'House of Switzerland' for an evening that attracted over 300 distinguished guests, including senior executives from leading Swiss companies, government representatives, and prominent community figures.

The event held special significance, celebrating the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Switzerland and the People's Republic of China. The occasion was honored by the presence of Jürg Burri, Ambassador of Switzerland to China, and Madam Liu Duo, Vice Mayor of Shanghai, just days before the official anniversary on September 14th.

Swiss Night is, all at once, an appreciation event, an exclusive networking opportunity, a platform for solutions for your business challenges, and a shared way forward–with, for and by Team Switzerland in the Yangtze River Delta. To see the collective Swiss expertise and strength in action is very inspiring.

In his keynote speech, Ambassador Burri paid tribute to “Switzerland’s good and intense relations with China”, as evidenced by recent high-level exchanges between Foreign Ministers Wang and Cassis, Parliamentary Leaders of both countries, and the visits of three Chinese Vice Premiers to Switzerland.

He further emphasized the vital role played by the dynamic Swiss business community in Shanghai and the Sino-Swiss bilateral free trade agreement in driving mutual trade and investment.

Consul General Sacha Bachmann underscored the excellent relations between Shanghai and Switzerland, noting Mayor Gong Zheng's visits to Basel and Davos earlier this year. He pointed out that Swiss companies, particularly from Shanghai’s sister city Basel, are among the top investors in the city. The Chairmen of five Swiss multinational companies are members of the IBLAC Advisory Council for the Mayor of Shanghai and meet him annually in person.
